Jeffrey James Quinn

May 11, 1958 ~ April 24, 2019 (age 60)

Jeffrey James Quinn, known to many as simply Quinn, and to some as The Mighty Quinn, was an independent thinker with an easy-going demeanor and an indelible spirit.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, and raised in Kinnelon, NJ from the age of seven, Jeff grew up surrounded by woods and lakes and loved the outdoors. As a boy and young man, he was an avid ice hockey player, a passion that grew into a devotion to the NY Rangers. Everyone knew Quinn as a hockey guy.

He was also a hiking guy. And a deep-sea fishing guy. And a sports guy (the Yankees, the Giants, and, of course, the Rangers!). And a beloved guy.

After high school, Jeff left for the west, living in California and Colorado for a time – chasing dreams and following his heart. When he came back east, he started work as a builder and eventually moved to Jersey City, where he made his home.

During his 16 years in Jersey City, he lived next door to a corner bar, and the crowd became a second family to him. Jeff was known as person who could get along with everyone. Accepting, approachable, easy to like. He was intelligent and quick-witted, generous and caring. He was someone who liked to help people, always giving what he could.

A man not tied to convention, he was committed to doing things his own way – making independent, educated choices as both a realist and an optimist. He is remembered as a fighter who never gave up hope. “If someone was holding a gun to my head, I wouldn’t think I was going to die. Maybe just grazed,” he once said with a laugh. It was this upbeat nature – and humor – that drew so many to him; why people always wanted to be with him.

The Mighty Quinn passed at 60 years of age on April 24 at 6:30 pm after a long bout with colo-rectal cancer. During his illness, he was lovingly cared for by old and new friends and family. He is survived by his sister, Tracy, and his brother, Mitch.

Cremation is private.  A memorial service will be held on a later date to be announced.
